Fourza Le Mans 2015: Planning Post

As some of you may be aware, members of Oppo have been running a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in Forza 4 over the past year. This all started after, around this time last year, SVTyler organized a 24 lap race at Le Mans for fun, which evolved into our racing series. This year, he is busy organizing the next racing series, so I’m going to take on the task of organizing this year’s Le Mans race. In this post, I have a few polls so all of you can play a part in working out the specifics of the race.

For the most part, this race is going to follow the same basic formula as last year’s. Lots of people in fast cars racing around Le Mans for a long time. I have some ideas on how to change it up from last year, but more on that later. For those of you who don’t know about our series our race at Le Mans last year, it is certainly not competitive racing or extremely aggressive racing. We’re pretty chill and just talk about cars a lot of the time. It is open to anyone and everyone. It doesn’t matter how good or bad you are at the game. We have people of all skill levels regularly race with us. It results in some great racing, too. This whole series, especially the first Le Mans race, is some of the most I’ve ever had in Forza. Here are some pics from last year showing the action.

Last year’s race was a lot of fun, but there is always room to improve. It was just a standard 24 lap race with one car class. In the settings of the online match, though, I can add certain aspects to that. There are settings in the online matches that allow you to set the race duration by time instead of laps. This would allow us to do a more realistic endurance style race where the winner is determined by distance covered over a set time. So instead of 24 laps, we could have the race set to 2.4 hours, complete with a countdown timer. Another thing we could do is run multiple different types of cars. If set up correctly, you can create a multi-class race like in the single player mode, with each group technically being its own separate race with its own separate winner while still sharing the track with the other class. Of course, this is only if you guys are interested in that. I have these options incorporated into the polls below, so vote for them if you want them to be a part of the race.

Obviously, we will need a lobby host for this whole event. I can and want to do it, especially if we get a bit more complex with the settings so I can make sure it’s set up right. However, if we run a basic setup for the race, I would rather have someone else host the lobby. My internet can support hosting a lobby, but I’m afraid of its stability. When it works, it’s great. However, I have had times where the game has told me it can’t connect to the game’s servers and fail to recognize the existence of the club garage while I’m in an online lobby. Therefore, I would rather have someone with more stable internet host the lobby to avoid problems. If you think you can host the lobby, let me know, and a final plan for who is hosting will be made after the polls have been completed.

Another thing that needs sorted out is how the cars will be tuned. When we did this race originally, we all had our cars set to the same PI (R3 800). However, in our latest racing series, we all had our cars set to match a set lap time set before the race, leading to closer racing from everyone. The first option is closer to real life, but will somewhat favor faster drivers. The other option is a more “we’re just doing this for fun” option. You all can decide which option we choose in the polls below.

Also, and probably most importantly, if you are interested in racing, you can leave a comment with your Xbox Live gamertag below, but there will be an official sign up post later, too. Also, to make the invites on race day a lot simpler, please join the club garage if you haven’t already. You can leave a comment on one of SVTyler’s post’s to get an invite to the club from him, as I can’t/don’t know how to do that.

The polls below have the variables for the race that still need to be determined. Vote on them to help decide what we do for Le Mans this year.

If we are doing gt cars or lap then you can't do lap time matching like we do in the t/a and 2-5 series due to less upgrades

Maybe I’m just picky, but I think everyone should be required to have a unique number displayed on their livery. It just bugs me when there’s a “normal” car in the field.

I’d personally prefer Friday evening or Sunday. Also, I’ll be busy for multiple reasons Saturday the 13th up to and including that it’s my birthday, and the real Le Mans will be going on at the same time.

Also, I voted multiclass GT/LMP because I just want to drive delicious LMP goodness and it would also be fair to those who aren’t good at driving LMPs but still want to race.

I agree that unique paint jobs and numbers should be encouraged if possible. It would definitely make for some great pictures. Some of us would have to pull designs from the storefront though since not every is good with the painting in Forza. I know I’ll most likely be running a storefront design.

Very true, and the voting is leaning towards LMP/GT multi-class, so I’ll probably have to ditch the match lap time. I think it is workable to a certain extent with the GT cars, but definitely not LMP.

The voting is leaning towards a set PI so that is probably what we will do. I did have the idea of GT cars matching lap time and the LMP matching PI, but if there is a majority for matching PI, I probably won’t bother with that idea.

Saturday is definitely out because I’m busy that day too, and it is the day of the actual race. I’ll probably end up having to do another poll to further narrow down the times and get a set date.

The GT/LMP will be more realistic too, since they are literally the cars that are raced today. Will probably have to avoid matching lap times, though, but it seems people want to do that anyway based on the voting.

I have a request that all driving aids except for ABS, automatic transmission, and clutch (if you’re driving manual), be turned off. I personally don’t use ABS, and I drive a manual. In particular, driving lines should be turned off.

I don’t understand what the problem is with Setting a PI, and just saying have at it with set cars to choose from. I’ve lost my fair share of races, but that is only because I need to practice more and learn to tune better.

I was about to start typing up the final plan. It should be up sometime tonight, but if it isn’t for whatever reason it will definitely be up tomorrow. The cars are definitely going to be GT and LMP, so paint up whatever car you’re using for either of those classes.

I’m not going to restrict driving aids, but most of us use very few of them anyway. Personally, I only use manual without clutch and the braking driving line assists. We have a few people using ABS but those are really the extent of assists used.
